The vast majority of the American public is very supportive of efforts to alleviate world hunger and poverty.
An overwhelming 87% favored the US “giving food and medical assistance to people in needy countries”.
As to which countries we would judge preferable to give foreign aid to:
59% of Americans choose “countries with poorest economies”
23% of Americans choose “countries important to US security”
13% of Americans choose “countries needed by the US as trade partners”
Unfortunately, the real figures for US foreign aid do not in any way reflect the desires of the American public.

I believe you're wrong, we give more than anyone else, and that's what matters. Europe may give a %GDP to aid, but we don't and still give more than they do. We just don't pay out cash, and have to be selective about the aid, because it'll go to dictators to run their genocide.
Yes, it's true that corruption in developing nations is a major problem. (See interesting article on the subject

And I agree that Americans are an incredibly generous people.

However, did you know that Americans privately give at least $34 billion overseas, which is more than TWICE what the official US foreign aid is.
Meanwhile the US Govt is spending $60 Billion a year on the War!
My point in this particular post is that Government giving doesn't reflect the will of the people.
